Meet Veronica
The Art of Resourcefulness
Originally from Harare, Zimbabwe, Veronica has called South Africa home since 2016. Her journey is one of resilience; after the loss of her husband, she dedicated herself to her mother's care before moving to South Africa to build a new life. Today, she balances her role as a House Manager in Johannesburg with a lifelong passion for knitting.
Born of Necessity
Veronica's knitting journey didn't start with luxury yarns or fancy needles. As a child, she and her friends played "house" by collecting wool offcuts from their mothers. Without access to tools, they got creative—burning the ends of long grass to use as needles or scavenging bicycle spokes from scrap yards. By age 16, this ingenuity allowed Veronica to knit her own polo-neck sweaters.
She refined her skills at women's clubs alongside her mother, learning the precise arts of sewing, cooking, and knitting that she carries with her today.
A Mother's Quiet Strength
Veronica is the matriarch of four—twins Tendai and Chenai, Japhet, and Helen. Though she fears her craft might "die with her" because her busy life hasn't allowed her the time to teach her daughters, she continues to use her needles to support her family.
Every stitch Veronica knits is an act of service. Whether it is helping Tendai build his home, assisting Chenai with grandchildren's school fees, or supporting Japhet while he seeks work, Veronica's craft is the thread that keeps her family's dreams together.
